Besides the day when we receive palms, you might know this day as the day we have to stand through that really long Gospel. You might be okay with that, or you might find that a challenge. (Of course, we’re not asked to do the impossible, so if you need to sit you can sit.)
But it led me to think about where each of us stands, so to speak, in our relationship with the living God. Maybe you’re okay with it, or maybe you’re finding it a challenge. Perhaps you’re at a place right now where you’re really struggling with your faith. Perhaps you’re at a place where you’re good with waving a palm, but you don’t want to go any deeper with Jesus. Perhaps you’re in a place where you know God is trying to make a move in your life but you’re not sure how to respond—or even if you’re willing to. Perhaps you’re just trying to stay standing in the midst of all the things swirling around you.
Wherever it is that we are standing in our relationship with God, today/this week, we come to stand —in a particular way—face to face with the real depth of God’s great love for each of us, the love that shows itself most purely and most fully on the Cross. Brothers and sisters, no matter where you stand in your relationship with God right now, let us allow the love of Christ poured out for us on the Cross to reach in and touch us in a new way. And may it not leave us standing still.
